حَاوَلَ الْهُرُوبَ منْهَا كَثيرا ولكنّهَا اسْتَطَاعَت اللحاق به
وَإمْسَاكَهُ فِى النّهَايَة.
أَخَذَتْ أَنْفَاسُ الْفَارِ تَتَلاحَقُ بِسُرْعَة مِنْ شِدَّةِ الْخَوْف.
وَسَأَلَ الْقِطَّةَ: هَلْ سَتَأْكُلينني الآنَ؟ قَالَت القطة بسُرْعَة :
طَبْعًا وَهَلْ تَظُنُّ أَنَّني سَأَفْعَلُ غَيْرَ ذَلكَ؟!
قَالَ الْفَأَرُ : إِذَا تَرَكْتيني يُمكنني أَنْ أُقَدِّمَ لَكَ خَدَمَةً سَأَلَتْهُ
الْقِطَّةَ : وَمَا هيَ هَذه الخدْمَةُ؟ أَجَابَهَا الْفَأَرُ : مِنْ زُمَلَائي
الفئران مَنْ هُمْ أَكْبَرُ مِنّي حَجَمَا, وَأَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ آتيك
بهم لتأكليهمْ قَالَت القطة : وَمَا يُدْرِينِي أَنَّكَ صَادِق؟
قال الفأر : أعدك بتنفيذ ما قلته الْفَارُ
قالت القطة: إذَا فَحِينَمَا تَأْتِي بِهِمْ عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تَمُرُّوا
مِنْ هَذَا الطَّرِيقِ وَأَنَا سَأَخْتَبِيءُ لأراكُمْ؛ أَمَّا أَنْتَ فَعَلَيْكَ
أَنْ تَخْتَبِى وَقْتَهَا فِي هَذه الْحُفْرَةِ حَتَّى أَنْتَهيَ مِنْ
عَمَلي
ثُمَّ تَرَكَتْهُ الْقِطَّةُ فَأَسْرَعَ يَجْرِي وَصَلَ إِلَى زُمَلَائِهِ الْفِئَرَانِ
وَقَالَ لَهُمْ: أَبْشِرُوا يَا أَصْدِقَائِي إِنَّ هَذَا الطَّرِيقَ بِهِ طَعَامٌ
كَثِيرٌ لَمْ أَسْتَطِعْ حَمْلَهُ وَحْدي, فَهَيَّا بِنَا لَنَأْتِيَ بِهِ وَذَهَبَ
مَعَهُ الْفِتَرانُ لِيَأْتُوا بِالطَّعَامِ الَّذِي أَخْبَرَهُمْ
وفِي الطَّرِيقِ هَجَمَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقِطَّةَ, فَأَسْرَعَ كُلَّ مِنْهُمْ
بِالْجَرْيِ وَتَفَرَّقُوا هُنَا وَهُنَاكَ, وَأَسْرَعَ الْفَارُ بالاختباء
في الحفرة.
اختارت الْقِصَّةُ لَحْظَةً، ثُمَّ أَسْرَعَتْ إِلَى الْحُفْرَة التي
اخْتَبَاً بهَا الْفَارِ وَقَفَت القطَّةَ تَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ مُبْتَسمَة وَقَالَت
لِذَلِكَ أَخْبَرْتُكَ بأَنْ تَخْتبىء في هَذهِ الْحُفْرَةِ.
لأنني أُعْرِفُ أَنَّكَ لَنْ تَسْتَطِيعَ الْخُرُوجَ مِنْهَا يَكْفِينِي
الآنَ أَنْ أكُلَكَ وَحْدَكَ لأنَّكَ خَنْتَ زَمَلاءَكَ, وَلَا تَسْتَحقَ
أَنْ تَعِيشِ قَالَ الْفَأَرُ بِخَوْفِ شَدِيدٍ: أَرْجُو أَنْ تُعْطِيَني
فُرْصَةً أُخْرَى وَسَوْفَ أَ.. وَلَكنَّ الْقِطَّةَ هَجَمَتْ عَلَيْهِ
وَأَكَلَتْهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَسْتَكْمِلَ حَدِيثَهُ.
