The three thieves succeeded in robbing the merchant!

They waited until everyone on the farm was asleep. Then, they sneaked into the storeroom, stole the purse of money, and left, happy to have stolen such a large sum of money. After the messengers fled with the bag, they went to a distant place and mingled among the weeds and trees. One of them said, "Let's divide the money among us." Another said, "We'll give it to them after we eat." He went to bring the food, while the other two sat waiting for him. Suddenly, one of the thieves said to the other, "We'll give this money to the two of us alone, and when our friend returns, we'll kill him." His companion agreed to this evil proposal. The third man considered poisoning the food he had bought to kill the other two Chinese and take the entire sum for himself. When he returned, the other two thieves hit him on the head with sticks until he fell to the ground. Believing he was dead, they ate the poisoned food and fell to the ground, writhing in pain. One of the fishermen heard their voices and rushed to them. He found the bag with the merchant's name on it. He realized they were thieves and asked for the money and help. Then he went to the farm and handed the bag over to its owner. The merchant said, “Praise be to God, I have recovered my money.” He thanked the fisherman, and the merchant said to him, “This is God’s will, that your money be returned to you, because you are a generous man who loves good and is kind to the needy.”
