كَانَ الثَّعْبَانُ يَمْشِي وَهُوَ يَقُولُ فِى نَفْسه: لَقَدْ وَصَلْتُ
الْآنَ إِلَى الْغَابَةِ, يَبْدُو أَنَّ عِيشَتي سَتَكُونُ أَفْضَل فَكُلُّ
إِنْسَانِ يَرَانِي يَهْرُبَ. أَمَّا هُنَا فِي الْغَابَة فَلَابُدَّ أَنَّني
سَاجِدُ الصَّدِيقَ الَّذِي لَمْ أَجِدْهُ فِي الْمَدِينَة.
وَجَدَ التَّعْبَانُ كَلْبًا يَجْلِسُ تَحْتَ شجرة كبيرة, اقترب من
وَقَالَ لَهُ: هَلْ تَقْبَلُ صَدَاقَتي أيُّهَا الْكَلْبُ؟ نَظَرَ الْكَلْبُ
إِلَيْهِ وَقَالَ: أَنَّني لَمْ أَصَادق ثُعْبَانًا مِنْ قَبْلُ وَلَا يُوجَدُ
لِي أَصْدِقَاءُ غَيْرُ عَصَافير هذه الشَّجَرَةِ الَّتِي أَجْلِسُ في
ظلْهَا دَائِمًا، وَلَكِنْ لَا مَانِعَ مِنْ أنْ تُصْبحَ صَديقًا ؟
وَلَكنْ عَلَيْكَ أَنْ تَعْلَمَ أَنَّني حَيَوَانٌ وَفيّ, وَلَا أَخُونُ
صَدِيقِي أَبَدًا, وَأَرْجُو أَنْ تَكُونَ أَنْتَ الْآخَرُ كَذَلكَ وَفَعْلًا.
بَدَأت الصَّدَاقَةَ بَيْنَ الْكَلْبِ وَالثّعْبَانِ, وَأَصْبَحَا يَسيران
مَعًا بِشَكل دَائم, وَلَكنَّ الْكَلْبَ لَاحَظَ أَنَّ الْكَثير من -
الْحَيَوَانَات تُبْتَعدُ عَنْهُمَا بِسَبَبٍ وُجُودِ الثّعْبَانِ.
سأَلَ الْكَلبُ الثَّعْبَانَ عَنْ الْمَدِينَة التي كَانَ يَعيش بها
منْ قَبْلُ، وَتَأكَّدَ الْكَلْبُ أَنَّ صَدِيقَهُ لَيْسَ مَحْبُوبًا, قَالَ
الْكَلْبُ فِي نَفْسِهِ : يَبْدُو أَنَّني أَخْطَأْتُ حِينَمَا قَبلْتُ صَدَاقَةَ
هَذَا الثَّعْبَانِ, وَلَكنَّني لَنْ أَتْرُكَ صَدَاقَتَهُ مَا دَامَ لَمْ يَصْدُرْ
مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ يُضَايَقُني.
شَعَرَ الْكَلْبُ بِرَغْبَته في النَّوْمِ وَحينَمَا رَآهُ الثَّعْبَانُ
اسْتَغْرَقَ فِي النَّوْمِ, قَالَ فِي نَفْسِه وَهُوَ يَسْمَعُ
صَوْتَ الْعَصَافِيرِ فَوْقَ فُرُوعِ الشَّجَرَةِ : إِنَّ أَصْوَاتَ هَذه
الْعَصَافِيرِ تَجْعَلُ لَعَابِى يَسيلٌ سَأصْعَدُ الشَّجَرَةَ لأتَنَاوَلَهَا.
وَلَنْ يَشْعُرَ الْكَلْبُ بِذَلكَ؛ لأَنَّهُ مُسْتَغْرِقْ فِي النَّوْمِ.
ويدا الشُّعْبَانَ يَرْحَفُ صَاعدًا عَلَى الشَّجَرَةِ, لَكِنَّ بَعْضَ
الْعَصَافِير رأَتْهُ وَشَعَرتْ بالخَطَر الشَّدِيد, فَأَخَذَتْ تَصْرُخُ
بأَصْوَاتِ عَالِيَة . صَحَي الْكَلْبُ عَلَى أَصْوَات الْعَصَافِير.
وَشَاهَدَ مَا يَحْدُثُ.
الْكَلْبُ مُسْتَندًا عَلَى الشَّجَرَة, وَجَدْب الثَّعْبَانُ
ذيْله؛ فَسَقَطَ الثَّعْبَانُ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ, وَعِنْدَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ
لَهُ الْكَلْبُ بغَضَب شديد أَيُّهَا الثَّعْبَانُ اللَّعينُ كُنْتُ
أَشْعُرُ بِأَنَّكَ غَيْرُ وَفِيّ, وَسَتَخُونُ الصَّدَاقَةَ.
شَعَرَ الثَّعْبَانُ بِالْخَوْفِ وَالْخَطَر منَ الْكَلْبِ؛ أسْرَعَ يَلْدَعُهُ
وَجْرِي بَعِيدًا عَنْهُ ظَلَّ الْكَلْبُ يَتَأَلَّمُ من تلْكَ اللَّدْغَة. وَهُوَ
يَقُولُ لِنَفْسِهِ : أَنَا الَّذي أَخْطَأْتُ مِنَ الْبَدَايَة؛ لأنَّني قَبِلْتُ
صَدَاقَةَ حَيَوَان خَطر. وَلَا يُحَبُّهُ أَحَدٌ.
