وَوَجَدَ أخيراً شَجَرَةٌ بهَا عُشْ كَبِيرٌ . اقْتَرَبَ الْعُصْفُورُ منَ
الْعُشْ, وَنَظَرَ فَوَجَدَ مَجْمُوعَة مِنَ الْعَصَافِيرِ الصَّغيرة
يُغرِّدُونَ وَسَط وَالدَيْهِمْ, وَحينَمَا شَاهَدَ الأب أنَّ هُنَاكَ
ضَيْفًا بِالْخَارِج نَظَرَ إِلَيْه قَائلا: أَهْلًا َبكَ تَفَضَّلْ.
حَيْثُ أَحْسَنُوا ضِيَافَتَهُ وَقَدَّمُوا لَهُ الطَّعَامَ وَالشَّراب
قَالَ لَهُمُ الْعُصْفُورُ أَنَا لَيْسَتْ لِي أُسْرَةَ, فَأَرْجُو أَنْ تَقْبلُوا
أَنْ أَعِيشَ مَعَكُمْ. قَبلَتِ الْأَسْرَةُ أَنْ يَعِيشَ الْعُصْفُورُ
بَيْنَهُمْ, وَأَصْبَحَ الْوَالِدَانِ يُعَامِلَانِهِ كَوَاحِدٍ مِنْ أَبْنَائِهِمَا.
مَرَتِ الْأَيَّامُ, يَأْكُلُ الْعُصْفُورُ وَيَشْرَبُ دُونَ أَنْ يَبْذُلَ أَيَّ
مَجْهُودٍ. وَفِي أحد الأيَّامِ قَالَ لَهُ كَبِيرُ الأَسْرَة : يَا بُنَيَّ
لمَاذَا لَا تَخْرُجُ الْبَحْث عَن الرِّزْقِ وَإحْضَار الطعام
وَالشَّراب مِثْلَنَا ؟ قَالَ لَهُ الْعُصْفُور أَنَا لَمْ أَعْتَدْ عَلَى
الْعَمَل وَبَذل المَجْهُود
قَالَ الْعُصْفُورُ الأَبُ للضَّيْف الْكَسُول أَنْتَ تَجْلِسُ مَعَنَا
فَتْرَةً طَوِيلَة يَابنَيَّ, وَأَنَا وَأَبْنَائِي كَثِيرُونَ ؛ الْحَقِيقَة أَنَّ

وُجُودَكَ يُزيدُ الْعِبْءَ عَلَيْنَا, وَأَنَا مُضْطَةٌ لأَنْ أَقُولَ لَكَ
بأنْ تَبْحَثَ عَنْ مَكَان آخَر غَيْر هَذا لتعيش فِيهِ خَرَجَ
الْعُصْفُورُ غَاضِبَ وَوَقَفَ عَلَى أَحَدٍ فُرُوعِ الشَّجَرَةِ.
هَذَا الْوَقْت شَاهَدَ ثُعْبَانًا يَمْشي بأسفل الشجرة
فَقَالَ لَهُ: أَيُّهَا التَّعْبَانُ. سَأَدُلُّكَ عَلَى وَجْبَة هَذَا الْعُش
به َالْكَثِيرُ مِنَ الْعَصَافير شَكَرَهُ الشُّعْبَانُ: أَمَّا الْعُصْفُورُ
قَالَ فِي نَفْسِهِ: بَعْدَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ الثَّعْبَانُ تِلْكَ الْعَصَافِيرَ
سَأَذْهَبُ لأقيم في عُشهمْ.
لكن أحد العصافير الصغيرة سَمِعَ الْحَوَارَ الدَّائِرَ بَيْنَ
الثّعْبَان وَذَلكَ الْعُصْفُور الذي أَحْسَنُوا إِلَيْهِ؛ فَأَسْرَعَ
لإخْبَارِ أَسْرَتَه الَّذِينَ أَسْرَعُوا بِدَوْرِهِمْ فِي الْخُرُوج وَالِابْتِعَادِ
عَن الْعُشْ حَتَّى لَا يَكُونُوا فَريسَةً للثَّعْبَان.
الْعُصْفُورُ حِينَمَا شَاهَدَ تِلْكَ الْأَسْرَة وَهِيَ تَخْرُجُ
منْ عُشْهَا, وَأَسْرَعَ للجُلُوس مَكَانَهُمْ, وَقَدْ نَسِيَ أَمْرَ
الثَّعْبَان وَفي اللَّيْلِ اقْتَرَبَ الثَّعْبَانُ بهُدُوء مِنَ الْعُش
وَوَقَفَ يَسُدَهُ بِوَجْهه
الْعُصْفُورُ فَأَخَذَ يَصْرُخُ مِنْ
شدَّة الْخَوْفِ وَلَكِنَّ التَّعْبان لم
يَهْتَمَّ بِصُراخه وَأَسْرَعَ بالتهامه
ثُمَّ عَادَتْ أَسْرَةُ الْعَصَافِيرِ إِلَى عُشهَا
بَعْدَ أَنْ زَالَ عَنْهُمُ الْخَطَرُ.
