يحكى أنه في قديم الزمان كان هناك ملك عظيم يحكم مملكة كبيرة ولكن
هذا الملك رغم قوة مملكته وكثرة ثرواتها كان حزيناً جداً، وكان كلما أراد
أحد إضحاكه إزداد حزنه.
اجتمع الحكماء والأطباء مع الملك يريدون معرفة سبب حزنه لكن الملك
نفسه لم يكن يعرف سببا لحزنه.
فكر أحد الحكماء أن يخترع للملك غازاً إذا شمه ضحك، وظل في معمله
أياماً كثيره حتى نجح في اختراع الغاز.
سعد الحكيم بشدة لنجاحه وعندما استنشق كمية من الغاز ظل يضحك
ويضحك ويضحك...
وخرج من معمله يريد قصر الملك وهو على هذه الحالة من الضحك. ولكنه
في حالته هذه نسي أن يغلق قارورة الغاز ونسي كذلك أن يغلق المعمل.
تسرب الغاز إلى هواء المملكة كلها وأصبح كل من يشمه يضحك دون توقف
حتى أصبح جميع أهل المملكة يضحكون دون سبب.
واستمر تسرب الغاز لعدة أيام واستمر الناس في الضحك ولم يعد أحد
يستطيع القيام بعمله من شدة الضحك . رأى أهل المدينة المجاورة ما حدث
في هذه المملكة فقرروا محاربة أهلها والاستيلاء على ثرواتها واستعد
الجيش ووقف على باب المملكة وجميع أهل المملكة لا يستطيعون الدفاع
عن مملكتهم من شدة الضحك.
ولكن هبت رياح شديدة على المملكة فحملت الغاز المضحك بعيدا عن المملكة
وفاق أهل المملكة من حالة الضحك ورأوا الجيوش على باب المملكة.
فجمع الملك جيشه واستعد للدفاع عن المملكة ورأت الجيوش قوة جيش
المملكة فخافت من دخول الحرب معها فانسحبوا إلى بلادهم.
وعاد أهل المملكة لعملهم وقد قرروا تعويض ما ضاع من الوقت في الضحك
وازدهرت المملكة وعادت الى الجيش قوته.
وتعلَّم الملك وكل أهل المملكة أن الضحك والسعادة ليس هدفًا، وأن لكل
شيء وقته، وأن السعادة الحقيقية في تقدم البلاد وازدهارها .
